Singapore currently has two fully-fledged public universities (National University of Singapore & Nanyang Technological University), and two fully-fledged private universities (SMU & Unisom). However, Unisom accepts only adult learners in general, so A-level students may apply only to SMU, NUS, NTU, several foreign university offshore campuses, and more than ten other private tertiary institutions offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. A third university, Singapore Management University (SMU), focusing on business and management courses. Besides this, to meet the International Students Requirement, there are Private Educational Institutions as well.

International students are normally not permitted to work part time during their studies However, they can apply for a work permit after their studies are completed and if they have secured a job.
