TChanges are being made to the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the standard standardised test for entrance to graduate programmes around the world. In an effort to better serve test-takers, the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which administers the GRE, has introduced a new, condensed test format.

The ETS has stated that it has made significant adjustments to the GRE.

Less Time Spent on Exams
The new GRE test will take less than 2 hours to complete. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the shortest test of general skills required for admission to graduate and professional programmes, taking only 1 hour and 58 minutes to complete.

Lessening the Quantity of Questions
The quantity of questions has been cut down considerably with the latest revision. One essay assignment has been added to the Analytical Writing section. While there will be 27 questions on the Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning tests respectively.

Elimination of the Scoreless Area
In the latest iteration of the GRE, the Unscored Section has been eliminated altogether.

Elimination of Predetermined Pause
The GRE's 10-minute break will be eliminated in the updated version.

More Timely Official Results
Participants will now receive their official test scores much more quickly than in the past. In 8-10 days, they will receive their final grades.

On September 22, 2023, the revised GRE format will become mandatory. However, signups for the condensed version of the exam have commenced.
