Canada Express Entry Canadian Experience Class Program

The Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program is a category within the Express Entry system that allows skilled tradespeople with work experience in specific occupations to apply for Canadian permanent residence. The FST program is designed to address labor shortages in certain skilled trades occupations in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria for FST program:

  • Work experience: You must have at least two years of full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) within the past five years in a skilled trade occupation listed in Major Group 72, 73, or 82, or Minor Group 632 or 633 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.
  • Language proficiency: You must demonstrate proficiency in one of Canada's official languages, English or French. You need to take a language test from an approved agency and score a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB 4 for reading and writing.
  • Education: You must have a Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or a foreign equivalent. If you have a foreign credential, you need to obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an approved agency to prove its equivalency.
  • Job offer::You must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer for at least one year of continuous full-time work in your skilled trade occupation. Alternatively, you may have a Certificate of Qualification in your skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
  • Admissibility: You must meet Canadian admissibility requirements, including security, criminal, and medical checks.
  • If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can create an Express Entry profile and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Canadian government. The EOI is a point-based system where you are assigned points based on various factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. The highest-ranking candidates are then invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws that are held by the government.

The FST program is a great pathway for skilled tradespeople who want to immigrate to Canada and have a job offer or a Certificate of Qualification in their skilled trade occupation. By applying through the FST program, individuals can leverage their skills and expertise to contribute to the Canadian workforce and fill labour shortages in certain trades occupations.
